Called an "Iron Betty," this hand-made tin and iron lamp burned any kind of oil available, even cooking grease using a cloth rag wick.
The wrought iron spike was pounded into a log wall, and this was used as a primitive "sconce." Dating from the earlier 1800's and probably American, this light has not been polished or cleaned, it has beautiful antique patina.
The lamp and link above are about 4' tall, the spike is 5" long.
