Signed by famous maker, "Jelliff" during the Victorian Renaissance period about 1870, this marble top chest or commode was used as a bedroom washstand - today it could be a vessel sink vanity or foyer console.
Solid walnut, the old finish is in very fine condition on this American made antique furniture. Waxed and buffed, only an occasional wipe with a soft dry cloth is needed to maintain its luster.
The curved front drawer has original hand carved pulls, hand cut dovetail joints and has a tiger or curly grain maple interior. There are stains to the shaped marble top, it has been polished and sealed. One of the greatest furniture makers of his day, John Jelliff (1813-93) worked in Newark, New Jersey from the 1850's to 1870's.
Dimensions are 36" wide, 19" deep and 30" tall)
