A remarkable Victorian 1875 era round dining table extends with an ingenious mechanical cranking system. Solid walnut, there are five 17 1/2" wide skirted leaves that fit and match very well.
The gleaming finish is excellent. A removable crank turns a series of iron gears and interconnecting oak frames to stretch the table. When fully extended, the stretchers sag a bit, so there is a large turned center leg that can be set underneath to keep the table level. It could be screwed in place, but has to be removed in order to close the table.
Brass wheels are original, legs are hand carved. We have only seen British tables with crank mechanisms, but this appears to be American antique furniture.
Dimensions are 48" diameter, 30 1/2" tall, legroom is 25 1/2" underneath, and length with all 5 leaves in place is 11' 3" total.
