Often called either a Davenport (after the designer) or ship captain's desk, this alluring Victorian furniture is all original from about 1870. Matched flame grain mahogany has wonderful warm patina - the color is radiant and the finish is very fine on all sides.
Entirely hand made, drawers have tiny cut dovetails. On the right is a tiny swivel drawer fitted for pens, points and ink bottles. Below is a door that opens, revealing four drawers inside. Opposite on the left side is a matching false door.
Old gold tooled leather on the slanted top has losses and wear. Under the lid is a storage compartment including two small drawers.
Utterly charming, this jewel of an antique desk has loads of character - notice mars and shrinkage separations in the photos. Tapered columns support the slanted top, which has a gallery at the rear.
Measurements of this lovely and historic desk are 22" wide, 23" deep, 32" tall, sloping up from the front which is 29" high.
