An authentic Victorian antique desk was carved of solid walnut about 1870, this imposing dropfront secretary has a bookcase top with original wavy glass doors and adjustable shelves. The arched glass and crown are beautiful. Drawers have carved pulls and hand-cut dovetails. Square nails show on the rough sawn back.
The drop front has a leather writing surface with tiny compartments for pens and and inkwell. There is beautiful curly grain on the front. Everywhere the finish has wonderful warm color and patina, with remarkably little wear or mars.
For easier moving, the bookcase is a separate piece on this historic American furniture. Dimensions are 45" wide, 22" deep, 7' 10" tall, with the top crest removed, height is 7' 4." The drop front writing surface slopes up from 29 1/2" high at the front.
