Shakespeare is standing with a thoughtful expression, holding a book, in this sculpture of spelter, a metal alloy similar to pewter.
The bronze finish is charmingly worn and has nice patina on this American statue from around 1890. The base is engraved "Shakespeare," and he has a bit of a paunch in this realistic depiction.
