Hand crafted and dated 1883, this elegant country secretary desk is golden butternut wood, a cousin of walnut, and bears a depiction of King Oscar II of Sweden. The inside door is also inscribed "John M. Carlson, Mar 2 Den 20, 1883."
The old finish has warm glowing antique patina with some revarnishing. Behind the drop down front are 20 tiny drawers, all with beautiful hand cut dovetailed joints. Large lower drawers have "racetrack" moldings and are hand dovetailed with chamfered bottoms. There is a working lock and key on the drop front of this historic furniture.
Expertly made in Sweden during the reign of Oscar II, 1872-1907, this Victorian period desk shows Biedermeier influence. Measurements are 46" wide, 19" deep, 52 1/2" tall and the writing area is 32" high.
