This classic Eastlake or late Victorian secretary desk has a barrel or cylinder roll top and incised carving of the period. Carved of solid walnut with burl panels about 1880, the warm finish is very fine with wonderful golden patina and very little wear. There is a shrinkage separation on the left side, see photo, and there are the usual natural irregularities in the burl panels.
The upper bookcase section has glass doors and adjustable shelves, it is a separate piece for handling.
Above the leather pull-out writing surface are tiny compartments and drawers. Matched walnut burl on the roll is stunning, the drawer below is hand dovetailed. Brasses are original.
Dimensions of this American antique furniture are 3' 10" wide, 22" deep, 7' 1 1/2" tall, and the writing surface is 29" above the floor.
