A charming country pine tall case or grandfather clock was hand crafted in Sweden about 1825, and appears to still have its original paint.
A traditional design shows Empire influence, there are enough mars, shrinkage separations and dings to show that this antique case has not been repainted, the softly shaded color and gold accents have beautiful antique patina.
Feet have been rebuilt, brass pendulum and hands appear original. Carved wooden pegs join hand planed boards together, the case is structurally sound. A lock and key work but do not catch because of age shrinkage and a warp on the door, see photos.
There is old wavy round glass in the upper door, the enamel convex dial has minor chips at the edges. The one week movement has been professionally cleaned and oiled, it keeps excellent time and there is a bell strike on the hour.
Understated and elegant country house furniture, this historic clock measures 21" wide, 9" deep and 71" tall.
